When you ride at Bonneville, do you start over-geared and work down or do you go in the opposite direction - low geared to high ?

I gear tall, and hope for a little tail wind :D

With the nitrous engine, it's a little different. I gear for a record speed, and just plan to increase the nitrous dose until I reach it or find the next weak point in the engine.

Getting back on topic, oOnortonOo, you might want to use lower pressures in the AM26. I run 26 front and 28 rear. 38 seems high to me for K81s. The factory recommendation for them was 26 psi front and rear, and 26 front and 28 rear for racing. When I raced my PR with K81s, I used 26 and 28.

I've figured out where I am going with my tire choice after doing a lot of reading and researching. I am going to switch from my present dunlops k81's (tt100's) to avon AV26's 100/90-19 both front and rear. As much as the dunlops worked fine for me inflated to 38 lbs almost everywhere I rode, they were horrible on grooved pavement and I want to try a different tread pattern because I think the continuous groove down the center of the tire on the dunlop is the reason the bike does the "cha cha" on grooved pavement.... so I'm going to give the avon's a try this time.... Also I'm willing to trade a faster wear rate on the avons, for their better grip.

I predict you'll be very happy with this set up sir.

FYI, I run 30/32 psi in my Avons (19" front / 18" rear)

+1. Except the 18" rear.

When I put my basket-case '73 back together, I put the K81s on. I found that the large center groove had a habit of following tar snakes and asphalt seams on the highway, and where I live there are a lot of drawbridges with steel grating on the operable part - quite an adventure crossing one of those! The groove on the tires would follow the ribs on the grates, and the bike would jump around as each tire passed from grate to grate.

Switched to the AM26, and have run those the past 10K miles with no issues (2 sets) - also have a little more clearance between the fender braces and the front tire compared to the TT100.
