Hello Forum

I have a 73 Commando, WM2 alloy front rim, WM4 alloy rear.

requesting what the forum members favorites are. Thank you!

It might help if you also state rim diameter but only as long as you realise this might happen...

I liked the Battlax tires on my modern bikes, but am trying the Conti Go tires on the old Norton. It had a old super venom on the rear, and a really old Dunlop K70 on the front. Fronts on my Norton last forever. Waiting for more sun and less drizzle before I get a chance to put some miles on the Conti Go tires. They will probably last me a long time. Rears didn't last long 30 years ago. Now I doubt I'll wear one out. I know, TMI

Wouldn't a Norton traditionalist spell tire, tyre?

First set I fitted on my 850 acquired 3 yrs back I fitted K70's as I wanted a "classic" look and experience. Can't complain, at the level I ride I never had any surprises, loss of traction etc. They have deep tread pattern and handled sand/light gravel On road surface nicely. The rear is about done after nearly 8k miles. Front is fine. Might go to K80 on rear this season.

that is already a wide rear rim, so I would fit the narrowest tire allowed for that. Wide tyres not good for Commando handling... see other threads.

For the WM4 18" rear............I'm thinking 110/90-18".
Does anybody know / have experience if this will present clearance problems?

Michelin Pilot Activ. Good range for 18" and 19" rims and good choice of aspect ratios they are available in "H" and "V" speed ratings, not that a Commando can sustain 135 MPH long enough before the tires time out (H rated versions). Bridgestones are also a good choice and offer similar size and aspect ratio choices; BT 45s were in short supply last summer and fall, not sure what the supply looks like now.

Regarding speed rating: V rated tires have a stiffer side wall than H rated tires which gives you added choices for your suspension settings.

Always purchase tires in matched pairs unless you really know what you are doing, and I'd advise you to shun Chinese offerings.

Best.
