Time for a change

The Norton will be relieved as it will be now ridden for what it was built for, hi speed riding and tight fast corners, it was doing more damage just riding it to work and around town, the Triumph is out numbered anyway as I also have a 650 Manxman project bike and 2 Honda dirt bikes, now to make more room in my shed

Well the Thruxton is great haven't had any problems with the handle bars just chanced to angle of them so no strain on my hands and arms, we have had so much rain when I got it and have only done 166 ks so far but will get a few uo this weekend if the weather stays fine.

Ashley

Well I have had the Thruxton for 3 weeks now and I am loving it, in this time we have had some pretty wet weather and have clocked up the first 1,000 ks slowly, it gets it first servise this Tuesday coming and will get the high performance pipes put on and the rear rack as well the gaitors on the forks, so far the Thruxton has been spot on, after 3 weeks I am starting to get use to it and starting to throw it around a lot harder, I am surprised at how well it handles and the smooth power, but its a bit too quite for me, but one good thing is I can sneak off work early on Friday afternoon without anyone hearing me  every one would set their watches when they heard the Norton fire up 8).

We went for a ride up Mt Mee last weekend I haven't been up there for about 10 years now and was shocked to see 70/80 ks speed signs and coppers every where, how disapointed I was, in the early days we would race with speeds of between 70 mph and over the ton in places with good long straights and some fast corners and now most of the bikes you see are Harleys, what is the world coming too :( but if things workout next year I will retire at the age of 55 years and will get a lot of riding up in the mountians during the week when no one is around  life can be hard sometimes :D

Well I have had the Thruxton for over a month now it has been raining for most of that month, the bike has seen more riding time in rain than dry :x but it is our wet session just wish it gave us a good break, had the bike first service and the hi performance pipes put on, wow what a big diffrence in performance, I can now hear my bike, I am getting 240ks to 12 1/2 ltrs when the low fuel light comes on with just over 3 ltrs left in the tank so should get 300 ks to a tank of fuel which isn't to bad, it will get better as the bike loosens up a bit, another modiforcation that will be happening is to block the air injection system when blocked it will run cooler, stop the header pipes from bluing up and stop the back splatter when the throttle is backed off, a friend of mine gave me a new flat bar handle bar to put on which will be a bit better than the standard handle bar, very happy with the rear sets they are in a ggod position and haven't had no problems with pain in the legs, have done a 300ks ride in tight mountain roads with the foot to gear and brake position great.

Throw some pics up ash.
Also, any time you might want to part with the manxman, just sing out. I'll be there in 20 mins.

The Manxman is not orginal it is a ex Mike Farrell race bike the only thing that was orginal was the blue frame but is painted black now, have started the rebuild but the last 6 months I haven't done much, the frame, frontend and rear end have been rebuilt with new Ikon shocks, I have all the parts for the engine and a Commando cluch with belt drive will be put on it, will be set up as a cafe racer as the orginal tank, seat and oil tank have been long gone, it sat in a shed in boxes for over 15 years from the person that brought it from Mike Farrell, he wanted $2,500 for it but I got it for $1,000 as he knew I had a Norton and would spend the time to rebuild it, but who knows if the right price was offered???

I have pics of it on this site under New Project bike, in this section.

You will enjoy the Thruxton. I've had mine since April 2010 and done everything on it, including a 4,000+km trip around the Pacific northwest over the course of a week. I've angled the bars back a tad to make the bike extremely comfortable. In totally stock form it is plenty of bike bike for me.... goes fast enough and goes around corners the way I like.

Have fun!

I did the same thing with the stock bars and it made a diffrents, but I was given a flat bar to try, I plan on retiring next year and planning some nice long trips around Australia and want the bike to be as comfortable as possiable, so far have had no problems with the riding position, with the high performance pipes it just made a big diffrence to the pick up and runs a bit better, the pipes are genuin Triumph off road mufflers and are the same shape as the standard mufflers and a little bit louder then the orginals :D

Hi All

I have owned my Thurxton for just over 4 months now and I am very happy with it, it has just over 4,000 ks on it, the handle bars ajusted up a little has been good and have suffered no pain at all in my arms or hands, the footing position is very comfortable and have had no pain it the legs at all, my mates and I go for between 250 to 400 ks rides on every second or third Sundays, there is a mix of bikes from big Harleys, Triunmph Bonnies (moden ones), another early Thurxton, big BMWs and big engine jap bikes, we all ride very hard and push them throught the tight mountians ranges with easy, I have no troubles keeping with them all but some of the bigger Jap bikes are so powerfull, the fastest I have been up to is 190 klicks and it does it with ease.

The more I ride it the more fun I have with this bike, so far I ride it every day of the week, I have also taken the Norton out a few times but I have a few things I need to do to it before I take it out good and proper, but thats another story, as for the Thurxton I am glad I brought this bike but can't wait till the warrenty runs out to do a few more things to it, the first thing will be to blank off the air injection system, its so anouing with the popping sound when backing off the throttle, as well I like to put a few more high performance parts on it when the time is right.

Congrads Ashman and I hope you keep enjoying it, not that it's any of my biz but I think you made the right decision, the word practical shouldn't be part of buying a bike!!

Here is a pic

Time for a change

Its about time I put a pic up, the thruxton is going great.

The new Triumphs are all good bikes, but the Thruxton is the only one that turns my crank. Maybe the only new motorcycle made by any manufacturer that has sex appeal. I have repeatedly refused to test ride one. I know I would love it but one of my other bikes would have to go. Change the bars or anything else. Go for it.

Looks great! I got a Bonnie TY-100 back in 2003 before the Thruxton model came out. So I have made a few modifications to it over the years. New exhaust system (stayed with peashooter style though), Norman Hyde M bars, gaitors, Thruxton seat w/cowl. It's a great bike. very reliable. Been meaning to put rearsets on it but those went on my Commando first.

Time for a change

It looks good Johnny, my friend has a 2006 Bonnie, he has rode it very hard since he brought it new, it is coming up to 100,000 ks now and it still has a strong motor.

Hey Ashley, you may want to check with your dealer. Mine didn't care about my pulling the air injection. ALso, mine was made before they put the fuel injection on the them-- still has Keihins, so in order for me to rejet the damn things I had to pull them off the bike and drill out the covers. Dealer was fine with it. --but then again, the only thing that ever went wrong with it was on literally DAY ONE when it was leaking oil out of the primary cover because the factory didn't seat a gasket properly. Still if you want to make performance mods, might as well ask.

I have the high perfomance pipes on that the dealer did, I have asked about removing the air injection system, they sell the kits but the workshop foreman won't let me saying if anything happens I will lose my warrenty, he is just being a dick, as I know my mates who brought new Triumphs from other dealers had no problem with removing them from new, I will just wait and put up with the popping.

Ash, I'm guessing your dealer is team moto @ Virginia. They are dicks mate. Ditch them and go to springwood.
If your dealer is a dick, change dealers. Personally, I will never spend another cent at Virginia. It's a long story

I have worked out that Team Homo at Virginia are a bunch of dicks, Springwood is a bit far for me to deal with but my next service will be done by Des Robets over at Brendale who does warrenty servising and knows what he is doing, I will ask him about removing my AI system, I got to see him next week as I want to get my Norton solo rego.
