Thread the spokes

Who supply the tool to re/thread the spokes?

Spoke threads are usually formed by 'rolling' rather than 'cutting' as rolling produces a stronger spoke, and a machine tool to do that is likely to be expensive.
However it seems that perhaps you are thinking of using a "die" to "re/thread" some existing spokes however you haven't mentioned what the spoke gauge(diameter) or thread size is, and as the thread is normally rolled, the threaded section is often a slightly larger diameter than the main section.

As LAB pointed out, spoke threads typically are rolled, rather than cut. To do so requires the spoke to be slightly undersized so that the threads can "grow" into the rolling tool. You can buy conventional threading dies in the correct size/pitch, but, if you try to thread the spoke this way, you'll find that there's hardly any engagement to be had with the nipples. That's a bad situation!
Thread rolling tools can be purchased new over the internet, but expect to pay somewhere around $125-$150 USD. You are probably better off having spokes built for you by one of the custom wheel shops. The operation itself is pretty straightforward once you have the tool. It's a two-piece affair that incorporates the main vise, plus the actual rolling head. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qN0XX8Byj8

I had my rear 19" spokes cut down 1/2" and rethreaded to adapt an 18" wheel. But if I had to do it over again, for peace of mind, I think I'd just buy the proper spokes as a set.

I had some spokes cut down recently to suit something else.
But I took them to a shop that had the suitable thread rolling equip to do this.
They were still quite warm when they handed them back...

This is exactly the same process they make up new spokes with.
(And since they were near new anyway, they were as good as new).
It just saved me buying a new set of spoke blanks.

Hi All.
Is very easy to find spokes for the stock hubs.
But is impossible to lace Grimeca/Fontana for 19 rims.
I have to buy a good tool for roll the 4 mm spokes.
Do you know who supply a good tool?

The you tube link is for the Cyclo hand machine

these are still available but only for cycle applications 13 /14 /15G SPOKES

Cyclo gear Motorcycle heads in 8/9/10G have not been produced for some considerable time 5 years plus

if anyone out there knows of a hand machine / rolling head supplier i would be very interested my Cyclo heads are all well past their best

I have laced Fontana, Grimeca, Oldani and a lot of other hubs to wheels that went into Nortons - front and rear, from 21" down to 17". Any competent shop should be able to have the needed spokes made and build you a wheel.

well that Ebay one is the wrong thread 10G ( Norton Drum) is 40 TPI and 8G which is what most use (stainless) to replace the standard spokes is 32TPI.

Hi and thank you.
Please, what is the correct thread?

Gauge MM Inch M Thread M Pitch Imp Thread TPI Pitch mm

10 3.2 0.124 3 0.5 Spoke 40 0.635

9 3.6 0.142 3.5 0.6 Spoke 40 0.635

8 4 0.156 4 0.7 Spoke 32 0.740

So metric pitch is 0.700mm, imperial is 32 TPI or pitch 0.740mm

Looks better on a spreadsheet but tans don't work in this forum
