So i have been chasing a fault and need some "twofold" help.

First, my 74 it running completely off the battery. I tested the rectifier off the bike and got what I thought are good readings. I have a radio shack replacement to try out but am electrically challenged when it comes to hooking it up. Can anyone here give me the cliff notes version, and perhaps a test to check the alternator output (that odes not require NICHROME wire & asbestos). Can a standard resistor from Radioshack work?

On the second front - I have noticed what could be only described as a "belt slipping sound" emanating from the right side of the motorcycle. I originally thought it might be the transmission, but I am now leaning towards the engine itself. I know this sounds ridiculous, but has anyone ever heard a squeaky sound that actually points to something?

Thanks,
Geoff

If it's the small encapsulated type bridge rectifier like this?

There be gremlins here...

Green/Yellow stator wire to AC [AC terminals are sometimes marked as: (~)]
White/Green stator wire to AC
(it doesn't matter which wire goes to which rectifier AC terminal)

For normal positive earth/ground.
Brown/Blue to (-)
Ground (or a harness Red wire) to (+)

Thanks L.A.B.! That is the one.

As far as the squeaks go, I'll go with a noisy tach drive (took the cable out last summer due to an erratic tach).

Thanks again!

Geoff
