I've rounded off the front isolastic bolt head (the right side) trying to get the bolt out with the engine in the cradle. (Note to self: You can get to the bolt head better when the engine drops down a bit with the cradle bolts out). What shade tree suggestions for getting it out or is it nut cracker time?
 
I build up wood blocks under the engine then a final wood wedge mallotted into place to take all the weight off that isolastic bolt, then tap it out from the drive side using a flat long punch.Observe the headside to see it clears the bottom end timing case. Since you have buggered up the head already you should replace it with a nice stainless one and washers reassembling with a little grease or antisieze smeared along the new bolt.
 
A nice small floor jack positioned under the frame works wonders to raise and lower the motor for such chores.
 
I went to Northern tool yesterday and got a special socket that's supposed to adhere to rounded bolts and I got a small bottle jack to put under the engine. Whatever the locking mechanism of that nut on the left side it works! Just in case, I also bought a nut breaker.
 
I"ve been through a few Commando's now and know the factory tools don't fit everything nor fit very well. Its takes 3 tool sets to handled w/o damage all the various fasteners, SAE is the most needed, Whitworth next and then Metrench type that grab the flats not the corners of damaged or non-standard size nuts. So indeed as concerns Norton one can blame their tools and not the mechanic.
