Very interesting bike. The 2 things that have me scratching are:

the timing cover mod, is it a cam chain tensioner?

The primary, it doesn't look like there is a straight path for the belt to travel on the bottom

got me scratching too. Why would you want a 1948 engine design in all that modern frame? Engine sounds like it's been modified from a 360 degree crank and has a whir like a Japanese gearbox.

Some of the engineering seems a bit strange perhaps, but looks like it works. The headlight looks naff though and I don't see what the cutouts at the front of the tank are for. Exhaust seems very quiet for its size.

Was in Japan a year ago and would love to go back there with a bike. Saw quite a lot of country that I'd like to ride through. Try not to spend too much time in the big cities though.

Yeah, that exhaust blew my mind. It sounded too quiet. He should have hobot do the test ride so we could hear it really turn on. I don't want to hear a bike like that put around I want to hear it wind out and back down again.

The thing on the timing cover is a failed attempt at relocating the kick starter, it did not work but he left the "growth" there just because  He has an extended drive shaft and also extended gearbox shafts to move the sprocket out to clear his wide rear tire. If you can read Japanese, the site is at http://homepage3.nifty.com/hanksart/

I like his oil tank placed in front of the engine, probaly dictated by the monoshock rear end. He has a magnetic tach and an electronic speedo, the only way to go with foreign wheels.

All in all, a neat bike.

Jean, don't forget the alternator placement :D

I hope he has some kind of outrigger on the gearbox shaft, if not, I know why he's pussy-footing around in the video.

I don't know, I just can't fall in love with it. Looks like there's been some heavy modification. Not sure how the gear shift works. What is that oil line off the top of the timing cover? I guess it's interesting.

Not my cup of tea either. Gear shift is a simple crossover linkage, the line off the top of timing cover looks to be the idle adjuster for the flatslides.

It proves that there is more than one way to skin a cat and that the old Norton can be given a facelift. It won't be as fast as a modern bike, but it will most certainly be better than a stocker performance wise, it may not please everyone, but the same can be said about art. I'm easy, I like it, I even like "some" choppers and just as art, sculpture in particular, it is the work that went into the art piece that makes me appreciate it more. An installation consisting of a pile of bricks is not art to me, a classic wooden chair replicated in metal is.

I dunno, maybe it's a combination of youtube sound quality and the crappy speaker on my laptop but it sounds suspiciously similar to my hedge trimmer.

I like the bike in general but this shot loses some points. It reminds me of the first time I sat on a Honda 750 or a Z1. I told the owner I felt like I was sitting on a lady bug. They are too squat, not long and lean like a Norton. This ones a full axe handle across the hind end.

That is a big rump

The bodywork looks like it was "borrowed" from a big Jap bike. The big ass is to cover the giant mufflers.
