So I pulled my mikuni 36 off yesterday and refit the 34mm flat slides (2of) to marea yesterday. Gee wizz I forgot how much more power and pull was in these bad boys. They just feel like I've picked up a substantial amout of torque and hp.
The mikuni was fantastic, don't get me wrong but it certainly has a lighter feel(if that makes sense?). Awesome rocksteady idle at 1000rpm and good linear takeoff through to 5000rpm. It's my backup and is reliable as the moon.
The JS setup is strong, all the way to 6500rpm (my personal limit). You can just feel the difference through the bars and your butt. For me, running a twin set up has always been a pain in the arse but a little patience this time round and some experience with the mikuni tuning method and I've got this setup closer to spot on than I had last time it was fitted. The sacrifice is idle, got it smartly putting on 900 but it will snuff occasionally or will only settle back to 1200.
The other thing I noticed is on fuel shutoff (to evacuate the bowls) it raced, firstly up to 2000rpm, sat there're then up to around 3000rpm, sat there for a bit and finished up at 4000rpm then poof, out of juice and stalled. Weird, never had that before.
Since then I've hit the idle circuit with a gunston plug and I'm close.
Although heaps heavier on the wrist, this setup is a moderate power improvement on the mikuni vm36 with 300mains
