The Annual Walridge Sale is On

Once a year Walridge Motors puts on a sale on its large inventory of British motorcycle parts, with discounts of 20% and more. For those of us lucky enough to be in a bike rebuilding mode, especially over the winter, this sale is an early Christmas gift. In particular, Norton sealed bearings, both single and double row, are heavily discounted. I've installed the double-row bearings in both the front and rear wheels of my Mk3 and can vouch for their claim that these bearings are plug-and-play. They are, in fact, a few thou thinner than the OEM unsealled bearings. Mike is an excellent resource at Walridge for all matters Norton. Prices are in $CAN, giving us yanks an additional small exchange benefit.

Yes, I got the sealed double row bearings for my 69 and I couldn't tell the difference from the original unsealed. Reasonable and easy, no machining of the hubs.

Walridge is awesome but unfortunately I don't need anything from their sale page.

Could someone please explain the double row single row choices with some insight on advantages and disadvantages. I assume one would need two bearing per wheel. Is that correct? Also, I assume that the primary advantage of the up grade is to have sealed versus nonsealed bearings.

On the early models (69 to ?) there is a single row bearing on one side of the hub and a double row on the other side. The front and rear are the same bearings, just on the opposite sides. This may have changed in later years, I don't know. All I know is that I didn't have to take my hub to a machinist to have my hubs machined deeper for a special double row bearing, ala the OldBritts website, and I just replaced the unsealed double row with a sealed unit and it went together fine. No more packing grease all over the inside of the hub, just enough to resist rust and moisture. Worked for me. Not sure why people want to spend money on machinists when you can buy a double row bearing for $30 or so (especially during the fall sale) at Walridge.

So what is required for a 73 ? Is it a double row and a single row for each wheel?

Don't know. Go on the Old Britts site and look it up for your model. Or I am sure Mike at Walridge will know.
