Hi all and thankyou for allowing me in this forum. My name is Shaun and I live in the U.K. Iv just bought a brand new 24 Commando 961. Has anyone got the latest head torque settings for the cylinder head?? Iv been told the latest Solihull Nortons torques differ from the previous ones

Welcome Shaun and congrats on your new bike. How are you finding it?

Were you also asking the same question on Facebook?

I think the only person likely to know is Stu Bodycote. You can send him a personal message from this platform or message him direct to enquiries@motorvated.uk

May I ask why you need it? Surely your dealer should be taking care of that?

Hi buddy

Well, as I live 170 miles from
My nearest dealer, Norton said I can service my own back and keep the warranty. As long as I use the correct parts. The first service needs the head re torqued hence my question. I'm afraid Stu doesn't know the answer either, he only has the settings for the pre Solihull bikes

Surely if Norton are happy for you to service it, they’d provide the necessary information for you to be able to do so… ie a workshop manual ?

Shaun... really ?? Hey I'm not doubting you, but I would certainly ask other dealers and also the main Norton factory to see if they agree with this.
I find it hard to believe that whoever told you this was in a position to do so.
If that was the case every owner (including myself) would just self service our bikes then ask our local Norton dealer to kindly stamp the service book.

That makes sense, but I’m surprised TBH. I hope you have that in writing.

I would just use the donington torque specs.

The dealer says they are different
I don’t know, but all you’re doing is a re torque because of the heat cycles and clamping the gasket. Unless they now use a torque to yield bolt. If that were the case, you wouldn’t be re torquing them. Torque to yield are one time use bolts.

Is there not a new service manual available for the Solihull 961?
I would try to get hold of one.
Chances are that you'll need to do more than head re-torquing in the future.
