T120R - don't know much about Triumphs. Good deal?

Hi Guys,

A local guy in my area is selling his 1972 T120R. It looks like a good bike. Engine completely rebuilt top and bottom. It does have aftermarket parts, (gauges, fenders, headlight, tailight, etc). The side panels look like they are off of an earlier bike too. The rims are crusty and could use a refresh. Boyer ignition. good tires






Any idea what these things are worth? I can pick this up for $2-3K. and ride it home.

Thats not a bad price, I would buy it, so if you have the money and the space for it I recond go for it, these old Triumphs are pretty reliable, will start first kick every time, are light to ride and handle pretty good, for the age you will always expect to do some minor work to clean them up.

Guards are original , siisy bar thing debateable , mufflers not , but not the uglyest . Pipes are earlier ( good without the cross over , tho 1 3/4 better in my estimation ! )

So like you say , Not Stock . Hom many miles ?? Looks looked after , at least , and not butchered .Stock sidepanels etc there somewhere ??

Take it for a spin , warm up a few miles . 5 - 10 mile ride . Taller riders o.k. with the seat hight .

( loooks like youve got the Low Seat Frame, anyway. just lacking Fr Brake - can be got to work - See if it DOES . )

The engine appears to have a 'CE' date code, which is March '71 manufacture, however, the frame appears to be the lowered seat version introduced during the mid-'72 season (from CG50414, March '72).
The side panels are probably the 'retro' type made for OIF models rather than earlier model parts (as the pre-OIF RH 'panel' would be the oil tank).

Sounds like a good price to me.

People looking to get into vintage roadracing love them, just need to inspect the swingarm spindle attachment area of the main spine tube and see if it's cracked / oily back there. A couple of sections of angle iron welded in place will fix it right up (just need to drain it and remove the rear wheel first)

Thanks for all the replies guys! I was ready to pull the trigger when the seller emailled me saying he took it for a ride yesterday and decided he didn't want to sell it. Crap. Oh well. I probably didn't need another project when I haven't finished my 63 Atlas. Thanks again.

Well he must think its a great bike to decide to keep it, here in Aussie land the prices of early Triumphs are going through the roof, they will never pull a price of a good Norton but they are getting there.
