Systems and competition

I have been thinking about Biden and Trump in terms of political systems and their implications for competition between nations. Apart from the left wing and right wing nonsense, the two politicians offer radically different approaches. If you are building a road racing motorcycle, you have a choice - you can adapt refine and improve something which already exists, or you can build something from scratch. This video about Eric 'Winkle' Brown shows aircraft development during WW2. What I found particularly interesting was the extremely high level of aircraft development that Brown discovered in Germany, when he visited after immediately WW2. The two different ideologies and systems which were involved during WW2, both produced excellent results.
