Hi - can someone please point out the advantage of the double clamp or extra bolt swing arm spindle upgrade

I have a 69S and the standard centre bolt set-up, with new swing arm bushes & MkIII iso's set at .006", yet there is still excessive sideways play at the rear wheel -about 8mm, leading to hairy high speed straight line motorway riding.

the spindle wasn't replaced it mic'ed up ok.

the spindle tube also appeared ok, with perhaps just some very minor wear

the question is - will this upgrade cure my problem, and is the intention of the upgrade to cure this problem.

cheers everyone

Bruce

The tube in the gearbox plates is thinwall and can bulge, the clamps prevent this.

Bruce,
I had the same situation on my bike.I then fitted the clamps and problem solved.Well worth your while to do
this upgrade.Lots of information on how to do this.

My understanding that the clamps will stop any spindle to cradle tube play, even if it's worn. If your bushings are tight, it should fix any play in the swing arm.

Concur with the posts re the clamps. They totally eliminated the play in my Commando's rear that still existed with new bushings/unworn spindle. I don't think there's any other mod that is so cost effective for the relative improvement...well, maybe the CNW/Brembo mastercylinder. :)

When I redo a cradle I weld on abutments for setscrews, like this picture.

At the same time I also make a relief in the opening on the RH side plate so the transmission can be removed easier.
