Swing arm oil

What I do now is remove the bolt at the top of the swing arm and put oil in there with a trigger-type oil can. Note that when I blew the caps off/stripped the long screw, I had removed the top bolt, expecting that I would fill with the grease gun until oil ran out the bolt hole. But those tiny holes in the spindle didn't allow oil to move fast enough to overcome the pressure I was generating with gun. I think the grease gun/open bolt hole would work ok if you pumped it veeeery slowly. But I just use the oil can now to add oil.

So this may be more about impatience than absent mindedness. I must say that this seem a little funny.

You say it is soooo much more effective and easier to drizzle 140 down the baby hole than it is to use it for vent when filling from the sert? That may require the patience of Jobe. To each his own, my friend. :lol:

One of our members, who seems to know what he is about recommended Jewell Amber Oil for the spindle (as well as the speedo sender) so I bought a tube to try out. I will report back in about 40 years as to whether it works better than 140 wt.

Note, if the spindle got left un-oiled long enough prior to an oiling attempt the spindle bleed-feed holes may be rust clogged.

Grease that flows. Interesting. But will it flow enough to seep into the bushes. I really cannot wait 40 years. I may make it to 100, my dad just turned 90, but i have a feeling priorities will have changed by then.

I've been giving my Mk.1 850 a couple of squirts of 90 grade with the oil gun every now and again for the past 36 years, I've never seen any leak out so I don't know where it goes to!
