Supercharged Commando

Would she just blow up if you start using all the power?
These old engines seem to have a hard enough time holding together as it is !
I'm thinking of the specials built by Kenny Dreer. He built some crackling hot motors but they liked to dump their innards on the road.
A Supercharged Norton would be another level up.
And I know there are the old Drouin setups rated at 100 bhp, but if you actually use that for any length of time....

So if a Norton crank has trouble surviving 80+ BHP, what makes anyone think it will survive 100 BHP. At some point you have to address the weakest link to increase the strength of any chain of force.

I knew Denis Cavilier pretty well, who DynoDave christened "mr drouin supercharger" in another thread. He tried to get me to mount one of his drouins on my commando, but I saw that he had a few bikes of his own and 3 unused superchargers but wasn't in a hurry to mount them on his own bikes. I wisely passed on his offer because I assumed I was in uncharted territory, where the idea was appealing, but the engineering needed to be worked out... I didn't need to be the guy who goes through the process of working it out... if it is even possible.

'Because I can' is never a good reason for doing anything. Hobot's Commando was supercharged, but I cannot think of a sensible reason for doing it. A better way might be to get an old Indian and hide a MotoGP bike within it's rust. Then you could give all the other idiots a big surprise.

My 850 runs on methanol. It has not exploded YET - but there is still time.

The last install I saw on here was the steel triangle wings he was welding onto the frame to stop him falling off!

It wasn't enough just to "like" Nigel's comment. Youtube is full of this same stupidity. An otherwise interesting video of something that could use some narration to add the interesting details of the project, but instead the person dubs in some shitty heavy metal music and leaves anyone who could appreciate this bike wondering if it runs, how it runs, and what were the challenges to pull it all together...
Yeah my wife just yelled at me to turn down that shit music.

I could see lowering the compression ratio and using the supercharger to supply modest boost such that the effective CR is somewhere near, but not over 10:1 may well preclude some expensive intake tract porting by providing equal packing, but I've never run a supercharger and my post may be a bit naive, I'm pretty sure that different cam profiles may be necessary, can't say.

I doubt that the Drouin or the one pictured has the capability to provide variable boost; need a turbo and fuel injection for that. More power always means less reliability, and having such a power adder and using it gently seems like a contradiction???

Best.
