So I'm removing the primary and I have the stator out and there is no play in the wire to pull it out. The wires are supposed to be under the air box but for the life of me I can't find the damn things. Any help here? It's an 850 mk3

On mine (early) there are only 2 wires from the stator (bullet type) and they attach to a 3 pronged connector just above the gearbox that goes to the rectifier, of course only 2 of the wires. I forget what the 3rd one is for, or it's just not used. Yours may be different, don't know the year. You can just make it out here just behind the plastic catch can I have and right on top of the gearbox and below the air filter ham can.

Stator wire - where exactly is it?

The two stator wires (green/yellow and white/green) should connect to the Mk3 wiring harness at a point approximately 6"-8" from the harness assimilator connections.

powerdoc, When you get it all back together one of the last things to do is smear some RTV silicone around the stater wire at the back of the case. Its a pain to do but youll be glad you did.One less oil leak.
