Starting big singles

I think that's the biggest issue. People kick their bike and think they are kicking it through when in fact they are just slipping through the clutch. Then they get mad because they know they are kicking it over.
You mean to say they cannot feel the motor compressing and releasing as it goes over compression ? They must be pretty insensitive.

I'm sure this clutch is not slipping, beginning to think it might have a bad condenser. Looks like weak spark and will only putt/putt just won't carry thru. Will have to order condenser. The spares I have are vastly different.

I think you can use any 12v condenser?
Make sure the points are clean and adjusted
And check and lube the aar unit if you can, you really don't want that unit jammed on full advance

Took everything apart yesterday and reassembled advance working freely . Getting ready to go to Texas won't get back on this bike for a while. If the condenser doesn't fix it , it will go to a local shop that specializes in British bikes. One good thing I got my leg in shape for the rest of the season LOL

There are a lot of people that do not know the difference of have a feel for this type of thing. All they know if is the kicker is being depressed then the engine is supposed to be turning.

It's a 441 Shooting Star and I have a light ass! The old guys used to watch the amp meter and then kick accordingly (now I'm the old guy). Going to manual to double check timing. Bought it, owner said it runs, carb has been dry for many years, who knows guess I'll start page one LOL I did change oil and cleaned sump, kicked until I had oil return.
Watch your knee and be wary of low ceilings. Was camped next to a guy at Road Atlanta and watched him get launched by a 441 Victor, threw him over the bars and trashed his knee. Gawd' that thing was loud and he always managed to fire it up while everyone else was still in their tent sleeping of the previous evenings festivities. I felt for the guy getting injured, but glad no one else could get it fired up.

I was stupid enough to play with the timing on my b44
It was fitted with a Boyer
I'd advanced it up just a little and at that time I hadn't learnt about turning it past tdc until the exhaust valve was just opening
And I hadn't returned the the kickstart to the top
So when I kicked it I didn't have the momentum and it kicked me back so hard it launched me!
I had a decent pair of boots on but the bruise was completely black on the sole of my foot
And both sides of my foot were mauve
I limped for 4 days
