I ran a straight edge between the engine primary sprocket and the clutch basket sprocket. How much diffrence should i expect between the engine sprocket and the clutch basket sprocket?

Zero would be ideal!! Seriously, you want to get the alignment to be as close as you can get. Shims are available to make it perfect. Triplex chain is less tolerant of misalignment relative to duplex chain which is less tolerant than single chain. You get the idea.

Unless cradle bent or gearbox guts rather worn out, only shiming needed is to space behind clutch and to space inner case post so they don't rub. Triplex chain is plenty tolerant to take normal Norton mis-manufacture variation, so good eye and ear should be quite good enough. Clutch wobble upsets best static alignment.
Main thing to tweak is that gear box is square in cradle once chain tension set loose enough cold.
