NGK for functional superiority. I use 5 k ohms resistor to match the Tri-Spark I use. I like the look of Champion. I was going to use ones from an older 3.8-liter Jaguar XK motor, but the resistance is too high. I never found Champion 5 k ohm resistors.
Those are on three of my Commandos and I have never had a problem, including in pouring rain from Tampa to Atlanta. Perhaps they fit loosely on the cable? I use copper core Packard 440 cable because it is black and looks original. For non-original I like Taylor wires and boots. This is just what works for me with RITA, Boyer analog, and Tri-Spark ignition.
Just going by what happened to my original Champion caps as supplied stock. Had arcing in a terrific thunderstorm on Rt 81 above Scranton. Bike was nearly brand new at the time. I went to Sparkys (used on outboard motors) for a long time, like 30 years. Now using NGK 5K resistor caps (supplied with Pazon Altair).
Note that Boyer analog and Pazon Sure-Fire ignitions don't require any resistor caps or resistive wires.
I have not tried it on my CDO, but in my old Hot Rod days we used to hit the distributer cap and plugs with hairspray after we had it all back together. Ran through a lot of mud and standing water without ever loosing spark.
