Spare Parts soon to be available again at Norton Motorcycles

Yes, awesome! I have been working on ‘she of higher authority’ explaining how essential it is that I have an ally tank on my CR! Unfortunately she’s from Glasgow! It’s true what they say about the scots! Good news indeed that things are moving on in Donnington Hall. I’m pretty excited to see what the future holds and having access to spares again is great. Have to admit that I have been limiting the mileage a little bit with no spares in mind.

I've sent a couple of mails to the parts email address and no response yet - does anyone have any other forms of contact for them at the moment? I'm after the race kit parts mentioned in another thread... any help appreciated :)

I didn't know they made plastic chain guards . My November 2014 build Sport had steel. The rear hugger was plastic.

Quite right, Tony. Another bit of feeble mindedness on my part. I just checked the small remaining bit of the chain guard where it was mounted at the front of the swinging arm, and it is steel. Not sure why I thought it was plastic. Probably just a confused memory from one of the other bikes. Some of them do have plastic chain guards. The issue now is going to be how to modify the mounting so the new one doesn't go the way of the old. Some sort of elastic mount at the front would seem to be a good idea. Or maybe reinforcing the guard at the front mounting point where it usually breaks.

We might have to get used to NOT calling it Donington hall, the recent emails from Norton all have the address as Hastings House, Castle Donington. I'm guessing SG still has his flat up on the top floor of the hall.

Yes its Hastings house only. I don't think they are going to be there for long, The engineer I spoke to was very friendly and said that the new owners have decided to move it to a proper motorcycle factory unit.
Amen!
Now, let's hope they focus on their core business.

I hope they upgraded the design of the steel ones. Including mine, there have been many reports of them snapping at the 90 degree angle where it mounts in front. Odd how mine had a little rust under it and the bike never got wet. The CF guard is excellent. Never heard of a plastic one. Only my mud guard is plastic.

I'd be buying the CF guard if it was available, and included it in my request, but all Norton is offering at this point is the steel one (black, I assume) or a chromed steel one.

My chromed one is still looking good, 2 years and just shy of 4k miles.

Just got this update from Carmen regarding my need for a chain guard. I have to say that I'm really encouraged that the company seems to be serious about providing good customer service.

And I'm sure Nigel will be chuckling when he reads this, because yes, I did tell her I'd go with the CF version:rolleyes:.

Hi Ken,

Apologies, we do also do a Carbon Fibre chainguard at a price of £114.99 each, Not sure if that was what you were looking for?

Thank you,

Carmen

Kind Regards

Thanks Ken.

One more step in the process. I just received the invoice from Carmen, but when I asked about payment methods, she said all they accept at the moment is BACS. Turns out BACS is a UK only system for transferring money between banks, so I have no way of paying from the US. But, I looked up more about the BACS system, and found a statement that in the UK people often refer to any kind of bank transfer as a "Bacs", whether it involves an actual BACS transfer or not. So maybe a normal international money transfer will work. I asked Carmen about that, and am awaiting her answer. It's starting to look kind of expensive. So far the cost of the guard is £114.99 and shipping is £35, which works out to US$190. Adding on my banks international transfer fees, plus the fees that the accepting bank charges, it's looking like at least US$250. Might have to go back to plan B, making my own. Such a simple thing to turn into such a complicated exercise.

Hello Ken , So we can't pay with credit card anymore like I used to do ?

One to watch out for is UK VAT (20% purchase tax). Ken, you won't have to pay this but for some unknown reason Norton are still giving prices to UK customers without VAT being added and I can't tell you how infuriating that is as it isn't something most customers can avoid paying. Come on Norton, by all means quote prices without VAT to non-EU countries but get real for everyone else!

Tony, Bank Transfer only at the moment as most of Norton's staff are working from home and they don't have facilities to take any other kind of payment.
