Hello all , I have just received a very encouraging email from Carmen at Norton Motorcycles :

Good afternoon Anthony,

Thank you for your email, apologies for the slow response in coming back to you. With regards to purchasing parts from ourselves, currently we are not fully up and running yet but if you let me know what you are wanting to order and send an email to parts@nortonmotorcycles.com

Hopefully this helps,

Kind regards,

Carmen

That's good to hear, Tony. I also emailed them, but never got a reply back. I will be sending them an email to the parts address, checking on availability of a chain guard. I'll post any results.

Yep, I got the same email from Carmen today. I had already sent an email to the parts address asking about a chain guard. No reply on that one yet, but I'm hoping for the best.

I must be doing something right as I got a personal telephone call today from Norton to let me know this was happening. I was told around two weeks minimum until parts available Good News.

Got this positive response this morning to my inquiry yesterday about a new chain guard.

"Good morning Ken,

Thank you for your email, I will get a price for the chain guard options and let you know what the costs would be to purchase.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,

Carmen"

That's making me feel a lot more optimistic about finding spares when needed.

So no parts schematics anywhere Tony?
If you are looking for parts breakdown you will find those in the Euro4 service manual. If it’s Norton part numbers you want I have not been able to get those other than from Norton or Norton Dealer.

If I understand it right, Norton only allowed access to it's online parts catalog to it's licensed dealers, and didn't distribute a printed one. And for a while they were trying to not allow owners to buy direct from the factory, not wanting to appear to be undercutting their dealers. Eventually they realized that wasn't working for the many owners who had no local dealers (most of the US, for one), and became much more willing to sell parts directly to them. I'm hoping the new owners will be a bit more accommodating, and make the parts lists available online to all. I'd like it even better if we could also order the parts directly, but if they do manage to set up a decent dealer network, they might be unwilling to allow that. I could live with that:(. Guess we'll just have to wait to find out what their plan is.

Latest update on trying to get a replacement chain guard. I just got this email from Carmen:

Good afternoon Ken,

I hope you are well?

The chain guards that you asked about are as below:

6050020 Steel - £71.95 – in stock
6050027 Chromed - £98.95 – in stock

Please let me know if you would like to go ahead with either of these, I can then put together a Pro Forma for payment.

Kind regards,

Carmen

I've replied, choosing the steel one. I'm a bit surprised at the choices. The original on my bike was plastic, and the only option I had seen at the time was a CF replacement. Does anyone know when they switched to steel?

Steel...

What about all that weight Ken...;)
Well, I had been considering making one out of thin gauge titanium, or even CF, but only if I couldn't buy anything suitable. The weight saved isn't worth the effort it takes to fab them up, unless nothing else is available. The only thing I didn't want to use again was a stock plastic one, which would certainly have failed eventually.

I didn't know they made plastic chain guards . My November 2014 build Sport had steel. The rear hugger was plastic.
