Some Andover Norton transmission parts quality escapes (2015)

As I said in my first post on this thread a customer drew my attention to it. Had he not done it, I might not have read about Concours' problem. May I therefore ask people who have problems to turn to us immediately instead of posting something somewhere on the net, be it here or elsewhere. I simply cannot read every forum every day- it'd not get my work done.
Thank you.

I totally agree the spline finish is rubbish, back in the good old days the splines where ground, the one's shown are "just" milled . It's a sign of the times

That's a bullshit statement. No one expects everyone to monitor every internet source, despite how prominent some of us believe this place is.

So let's talk about the 2nd lay and 2nd main gears I chose to NOT INSTALL based on the info at the AN home page about identifying their genuine parts, etc. The hand vibro etched ID's on one of them were done after the heat treating, and were a red flag, didn't dare chance a failure. I ordered two new gears from another vendor.

Both of the second gears that are of sketchy lineage have been returned to the shop where I got them. It'll be interesting to see where they surface next.

As for the "RS" gear, that was made by "Racing Spares" (now L.F.Harris) in the UK in the 1970s/80s for W.E.Wassell/Burntwood, no doubt down to a price. I still have a box full of these from a dealer's inventory I will not sell. They are non-functional junk tending towards dangerous. I am amazed they are still in circulation, three decades on!

Please, for the sake of those who come along next, have someone take a grinder to each one of those gears, then chuck 'em in the scrap steel bin.

I had one of these gears in a AN packet that I bought through our dealer here in Aus about 18 months ago.
I spoke direct with Ashley who quickly identified that it was old stock that should not have been in the system as they were removed from stock and he organised another gear for me immediately of which was good quality.
I work on Classic bikes for a living and when I identify a problem I always get help from Ashley
I also buy parts made by LF Harris, Wassell and MCA all of these suppliers at times have errors with the parts Example recently purchased 6 valve guides for. T150 Triple had to finish machining on 3 of them the dealer was helpful but the supplier was not interested.
At least when we have a problem with AN Parts we do get help
Thanks Joe and Ashley keep up the good work

Gerard,
Many thanks, it is not a problem. It's the customers that make me want to stay at ANIL, so I intend to be there for a good many years in the future. With a list of projects to proceed with, the future looks good. The one piece CrCo tappets for instance, these are complete with 40 pairs at ANIL - will be tested shortly and hopefully for sale within weeks.
