Smaller Taillight ?

i am currently rebuilding my newly acquired 850 Commando MkII. one thing that has bothered me a bit is the Huge Taillight.
I am basically looking for something a little smaller than the stock one, does anyone know if there is a kit available somewhere ?

You can try the stock 1971 taillight. It's much smaller and blends well with the bike.

Best small vintage style tail light is the "Donkey Dick" type my buddy fitted. Its got a very tiny spot of red light showing but its dazzling bright compared to bigger duller red lens. Otherwise various LED versions look/work similar but for style.

+1 on the old britts one! My wife bought the unpolished version for 110 bucks. Its a little bit of money for non performance but I am glad I have it. It is solid and they even put helicoils in the threaded mounts! Its solid too.

It was a pain in the ass to polish though!!!

When I was a kid, I always found the custom "cats face" & "Devils head" tail light lenses curiously attractrive..

i really like the oldbritt tiallight. thanks for the tip. i think i might go for that...

i havnt seen the stock smaller 71 taillight version yet (my commando is a 73).

Those lenses will fit right on to the standard earlier lucas-style housing, and the old britts one.

I bought mine unpolished from Old Britts and polished it up myself. You can see what it looks like here. The OB housing is a copy of the "Bates" housing that can be found on eBay from time to time and cost could be significantly less than the OB unit

While I think the pre-73 Commando taillight does look a lot better than the later style, I much prefer the look of the Bates style housing. Polished alloy is always preferable to painted steel IMHO!!
