Anyone know what years had the cutouts on the bottom engine bolt holes?...on the rear engine plates.
I have 1 set with the cutouts and 2 with the full holes.
Was it a practical mod, factory done, for late bikes or a mod on early bikes that was found to be bad and was therefore discontinued...
Seems like it should work OK since the plate is captive by the 2 other bolts on the rear of the engine.

I own a 63, 2-66 and a 68 and have BOTH styles of plates.

63-65 parts book Plate H item 51&52
part LH# 20700
part RH# 50229

66-68 parts book same PN...?
part LH# 20700
part RH# 50229

What about 61&62? I don't have this parts book.

what year/VIN did this undocumented change happen cutouts on the bottom engine bolt holes?...on the rear engine plate

All I care about is what year/s had the full holes and what year/s had the cut outs.
Tell me what you have?
Thanks

I am not sure what holes/cutouts you are referring to, Dave. If you can clarify, I will look at my '63 and reply.

got front engine plates ...not here

got rear engine plates (sandwich gearbox) and connect to frame...
LOWEST engine bolt/stud between frame rails...The one that won't come out and is captive by frame rails
that set of holes are EITHER a regular hole...or slot cut in the upward direction.
This was to facilitate engine removal without taking out whole lump, due to lower engine plate bolt/stud...the other 2 bolt/studs would come out...

Any one that has done a featherbed engine removal has touched this stud unless you pulled the whole lump.

year/vin ...hole/slot? thanks for any data, especially if an original/unmolested bike

I have holes.

Hopefully I can find a trend and figure this out. I have seen previously you are the original owner and this is hopefully a good data point.
I lost control of my plates and now only know there are 2 kinds
Thanks
