With the countershaft sprocket removed, should the sleeve gear and its bushing be able to slide in and out a bit on the mainshaft? I removed the oil seal to see if the bearing outer race is tight in the case and it seems to be. The sleeve gear is sliding along the inner race of the bearing. The mainshaft has about 0.010" endfloat. The sleeve gear has about 0.050" movement on the mainshaft. Does this all sound normal? Thanks guys.

The sleeve gear should be a snug slip fit in the bearing. Once the sprocket is on, it's locked to the bearing.

No. The sleeve gear should be a good fit in the bearing. However, as noted, sprocket locks the sleeve gear to the bearing inner so a good sliding fit is not a problem. Normally, movement in-out is the bearing in the gearbox shell - that shouldn't be there either. Mainshaft is located by the inner cover bearing and should also not move in-out. There has to be a running end-clearance between mainshaft and sleeve gear so 50thou is fine but things shouldn't slide in-out when assembled.
