Skyguyz starts the rebuild........

Been said more than once in this thread, but can't hurt to say again - beautiful bike - which icon is it that shows intense jealousy?

Have you considered smaller turn signals? Especially the front ones? Everything is looking great.

i love that this bike is completely not my style, but i still like it so much. Very nice work.

G'day Sky

At the risk of being repetitive - WOW, what beautiful work. Even though not quite to my taste (the chrome), but the world would be pretty boring if we were all the same, eh?

On the other hand, I painted my frame Guild Grey, almost identical to the colour of yours. It's interesting to see a fully built bike with this frame colour.

Mine is not together yet, I'm doing it all myself when I get the time. Work started March 2011. Progress was good, although a bit stop/start due to other commitments, until I had a bit of a hiccup with the main bearings old chap. I left the engine till last, thinking it would be the easy part, but then Murphy's Law came into play.

This is my second rebuild of this bike, the first was when I built it from a wreck in 1983.

I wasn't happy with the way the swingarm spindle was located back then, and this was the mod. I did:

The oiler is a new addition. Before that, lubrication was minimal (who the hell has an oil gun?) and the spindle suffered a bit. The tube can act as a reservoir, but I'll have to keep an eye out for leakage.

Cheers

Martin

Great bike Skyguy! Deja vu. I've been working on my own CNW also. Matt and Gary have helped me so much. I should be getting my motor , rearsets, and big bore exhaust in a few weeks. Can't wait! Enjoy your reborn Commando.

New pipe? Here's a tip. Tune the bike with the old pipe, if you have the option, particularly the timing. Many a new pipe have been blued (scared) for life after a restoration by having the first start up in a lean condition.

Much wisdom is attained through foolish mistakes.
Hey Foxy, you can use this one too. And it's "Life without humour just wouldn't be very funny".

Thanks for the tip. Luckily I still have those pipes.

Just to be safe, leave the timing a degree or 2 retarded, Pilot screw 1/4 turn in and sneak up on it with the new pipe. The bigger pipe may increase flow encouraging a lean state.

Sorry for the slight hijack, Skyguys.

Ok, I get it. Not sure if I'm going to mount the horn where it goes traditionally. I was actually considering some type of mount forward. I dunno, but I will make sure to leave room regardless. Thanks for the tip.

I THINK THEY ARE HAVING YOU ON. THE HORN FITS IN QUITE EASILY WITH THE REAR GUARD OFF OR PIVOTED BACK ON THE REAR MOUNTING.
