Sidestand Blues

I have fitted up a sidestand to my Mk3. With the stand deployed the bike leans excessively and is pretty well useless. The bush that came with it was like the proverbial "dick in a shirtsleeve" - I made another which lifted the bike maybe 10 degrees. The mount on the frame does not appear to be damaged and I do not think the bike has been in any sort of accident that could have moved the mount. I bought the stand from a supplier here in Oz and it is branded RGM. Has anyone had a similar experience with these stands? I don't know where to go with this one but I do know I am over hauling the bike onto the centrestand every time I get off it.

Is the stop worn so it's opening too far?

I bought this kit for my Mk3 which perked everything up.. Though if you have component wear or not to OE size then probably of little use...

The stop is slightly worn but if you move the stand in an arc back from the stop it doesn't lift the bike any higher.

If the stop on the frame is worn than so will the side stand matching surface, both will need welding and dressing back. As well as the bush the bolt also wears and with the long length of the side stand a small amount of slack at the bolt/bush is magnified at the side stand end, so new bush and bolt needed.

It will help you out. I also used RobSS method for the bushing fit that worked great for me.

I have heated and bent a few sidestands so the bikes sit more upright. Usually these are used sidestands that are bent from kickstarting against them.
Since you have a new stand, this might not help you.
See where the sidestand comes against the frame, and if you figure it will still retract properly, consider bending it to lift the bike.

The bolt is new and I made an improved bush for it. It lifted the bike around another ten degrees.
