My newly aquired 71 roadster came with an Oldbritts sidestand lug and stand to replace the bent up pin that's on it. Installation looks pretty straightforward, but nothing is ever as easy as it looks. Amy hints/tips on removing the remains of the old one and welding the new on on? I have the template to set it at the proper angle.
Next question: The centerstand has a cross brace welded to the bottom of it and the P/O failed to make sure it cleared the rear wheel before applying the gorilla snot-weld job to it. It also does not lift either wheel clear of the ground when down. So-A) Will sacked iso's cause it to not lift a wheel clear?
B) Were the stands wimpy enough to need bracing in the first place?
C) How many variations were there on the centerstand? Anyone have a 71 they could post a picture of or give me dimensions so I can check mine?
Thanks

As for the side stand...remove the old one "carefully".

As for the centerstand. It bolts to the cradle so it should be the same dimension as 72 and on. Mine is 10 and 3/4 inches over all in height. About 9-3/4 from the bottom of the pivot to the base. Might as well make sure it is the right height. If the shocks are too long it certainly will cause the rear wheel to stay on the ground. I suppose if the isos are completely hosed it might also. The original centerstands where pretty beefy without any bracing, so I don't know what you have there.

The pre-71 061116 frame mounted stand was not very strong. The '71-'73 063051 cradle mounted stand was an improvement and an even sturdier 064031 version was introduced in 1973 which can be retro-fitted to the '71-'73 models if two 064057 stepped spacers are used.

Thanks-the Norvil unit looks like the way to go. Mine does not even have the lever you step on to put it down.
