If you have a Atlas with a side car please send pics. Is there is a supplier of "strut" parts?

I have a "rat" Atlas and have just acquired a "rat" side car to install. I think if I had pics I could make the struts Thanks

Quarantined because of Covid, going out of my mind!!!! This is a project that I can work on without going anywhere.

The Atlas has a 55 inches approx. measurement from axel to axel. Where should the side car axel be? Is there an angle that must be maintained between the front wheel, or steering head and the side car wheel?

Covid arrgh!!

I have not a clue on the side car. Looks like it'll keep you busy. A Ratlas.

Search on Royal Enfield sidecars and see if any of it makes sense. The Enfield compatible sidecars look a bit more sophisticated design wise though.

The pics show the bike when I got it, the sidecar lugs removed, the half link primary chain and the finished bike all done and dusted.

Unfortunately all the people I knew that could help with that set up are no longer with us
I can remember them talking about toe in toe out
Swan necks
And adjustable knuckles etc etc
Do you get time off for COVID in America?

If I were employed yes. I'm retired so no! LOL Thanks for info so far. There's a lot to digest.

I phoned in sick with COVID and was told to come into work
I still took a couple of days off as I didn't really want to give it to the others
Good luck with your project will you be uprating the front brake or yokes?

Schwany named it "Ratlas"! The engine and trans have been rebuilt recently. Don't want to change anything unless I absolutely to have to. No 70 mph rides just around the area 40 mph.

Don't get me wrong but I am a Featherbed frame lover and have so from riding my first Norton Featherbed/Commando set up when I was 17 years old, the idea of mounting a sidecar to a Featherbed frame just blows my mind, to restrict a perfect handling frame that sticks to the road like glue and connect a sidecar to it, so many things not right, not only the mountings but the rake of the steering and frontend, everything design for solo handling on the Featherbed frame, but of course this is my opinion and mind set.
"Ratlas" is a good name for it, but still I can't put my head around the idea, they say Covid does a lot of strange things to us, but I wouldn't know as I been lucky to avoid it, touch wood.
But I will follow this thread with surprise as well interest and hope you recover from covid real quick.

I've never been in my right mind! Rest assured I will do this with respect to the featherbed frame. I am not planning on cutting or using clamps that will damage frame. I much prefer an attractive weld that can be ground off to preserve the original frame. I cannot move forward till I find the formula as to the positioning the side car wheel in relation to Atlas wheels. Royal Enfield's side car give some great dimensions but fuzzy out the lead. Trying some different avenues for info.

I am glad you are not going to butcher a good Featherbed frame and I respect you for that, a set up for quick release of the sidecar be a good idea, many years I was thinking I like an older bike with a sidecar mounted with a large box for carrying camping gear as I did a lot of camping in my younger days, well still do but have a Land Rover and trailer for that as we use to go away with the dirt bikes/camping in the bush or on the beach as well.
In my young days growing up down the end of my street was an old council mossie sprayer who had a working BSA single sidecar fitted for carrying all his work gear in a big rectangle box fitted on the SC frame then later years the SC fitted to a Honda 750 4 for many years after before he retired, both bikes were work horses, he had a shed with 7 ex army BSA singles.
You could set your clock every morning right on the same time he chug past my place in his old work overalls and all his spraying gear in his sidecar box heading to work, he even rode the Honda 4 like an old single.
As you have said lots of things to work out to fit right and be able to ride it safely, so I be watching how you go about it, very interesting project.

Norton made yokes for sidecar use, unfortunately I have no idea what was different or special about them. Worth looking into tho.

I've not seen Norton sidecar yokes but triumph sidecar yokes were slightly raked
So I'd expect Norton ones to be the same?

Plenty of info available on this on UK based Norton Owners Club site . Do internet search for Norton sidecar yokes . As I understand the yokes decrease the trail for lighter steering effort. Links are provided for setting up axle position, toe in , etc . Even a copy from Norton parts book listing parts needed to convert a featherbed chassis for side car work . I would post them here but my iPad is dis functional.
