side stand fitting

something is wrong with this bushing fit in the sidestand, i need some help here with how deep the bushing should go down, currently theres a lip at the bottom which you can see in the photo. and a shallow depression on the bottom where bolt head fits. is this normal?

the PO has some gr2 unc bolt in this which i will replace with a gr8 unf.

thanks in advance

The stand hole should be parallel with no lip. The bush should be very slightly longer than the width of the stand eye so the bolt and nut clamps the bush to the frame lug when tightened, leaving the stand free to pivot.

I think perhaps that side stand could be the 1971 type?

bushing dimensions are for a 73 from what i have found online

Does the stand have (or look as if it had) the "prong" and the knob for frame rubber buffer?

If your side stand is worn oversize and you are contemplating "making" one (bushing)...A soft mild steel one will not last long IMO don't waste your time....the originals were hard as tool steel, so use D2 or something like that and harden it. No Idea what AN is selling these days :?:

AN sell them brand new. Good used ones pop up on ebay all the time. I can't possibly imagine it being worthwhile making one from scratch !

Our side stand legs are forgings. Other offerings in the market are castings. Your guess which don't bend easily.

LAB it does have the prong and buffer. im just going to order a replacement bushing and then dress up the "forging" to fit

Before ordering your spacer measure the thickness of your side stand at the pivot point. The 850 Mark II and newer side stands use an 11/16 inch high pivot spacer p/n 065491. While the earlier side stand spacer is 5/8 inch high p/n 062871.

From looking at your picture it is possible that someone put a 5/8 inch high spacer on a later side stand and over time the washer dug a groove in your side stand.

The bolt has a thinner head than a standard bolt so that it doesn't catch the spring when being deployed.
