Should there be grooves on the rocker ends?

The outer washers for my rockers were quite chewed up and rough and I assumed that the grooves I saw on the end of the rockers were caused by this so started sanding them smooth. Then I thought about how even and concentric the grooves looked and wondered if that is intended to retain an oil film.

Have I been stupid to sand them flat? Here is one I sanded and one I didn't:

A second question - are these valve stems showing normal wear and reusable? I have bought new adjusters as the old ones were a bit rough which I assume has caused this pitting.

Fit lash caps, they will be as good as new. Never notices the grooves before, I would not remove any more but would not worry about the ones already gone. Instead of the springs you can fit custom thickness spacers so then no side thrust.
