Short ride video on a couple Nortons

@Mike T and I went out a little while ago for a ride. The general excuse was to get some miles on my bike. But it was also a beautiful day. Plus we thought we could get some cool footage with the 360 camera. Little did we know that it would get a little exciting (wait until the end of the video!).

It's been pretty much raining the whole time since we shot this. June is usually drier around here, but it's been unusually wet. Which isn't bad as we're technically in a drought (although it seems like we're always in a drought) but I'm looking forward to more sun.

I still haven't got a chance to recheck the timing. That's the next thing on my list.

I don't usually like on-board videos - they make me nervous. Where that Go-Pro camera is situated on the bike, is exactly where you need to be looking. Love the scenery, but if I was there on a bike, I probably would not see much of it. That proddy Norton is beautiful - when I get rich again, I might make one.

The camera is lower than it looks. Mike was wearing his camera on his chest so that’s why it looks like the 360 camera was in the way. About all you can’t see is the headlight.

I’m having fun with it. I think it adds a lot to riding videos that unless you have multiple cameras can be pretty boring.

I’m looking forward to future cameras with more resolution. But it’s a lot of data to crunch.

A full 360 video is 5.6K compared to even the massive 4K video. Gonna need a faster computer soon!

Nice footage of the your beautiful countryside , not too much traffic so could here the bikes well , thanks for putting up your video !
 
Nice riding area. I like all the greenery. This time of year my local rides are all pretty brown and dry.

Sort of reminds me of my ride on my B33 from Monterey to Merced and up into the high country at Yosemite. But that was in '62. I think my arms were asleep from the elbows down the whole time.

Nice bikes and nice ride. The other year wife and I went to NS and there's endless roads up there, but the scenery is not so great until you get way up. Roads here in Fauquier, VA are clear, but rough, too much frost, but the scenery is even greener, especially if you get down by Roanoke.

Luckily for us this is just minutes from where we live so it's not a grand journey. And it's only 1,600ft up so we can still breathe at that altitude. ;)

While my arms weren't asleep my neck was a little sore.
 
While I appreciate the expert photography, editing and effort put into these videos, I gotta say that I'm not a fan of the 360° camera effects. The distorted "bubble" effect just seems unnatural and kinda makes me queasy watching them.

It does affect some people that way. I think when VR headsets become more ubiquitous there will be some people who just won't be able to handle it.



How did you do watching this one? Did it make a difference that you could control the camera?

There isn't much 360 degree bubble effect on that one, so from that respect it's better IMO. Though there is some blurriness around the edges. The camera control is actually a PITA to me, as you can't keep it pointed in the direction of travel. I like to see the road, not the shrubs... though I may be a minority on that point.

As the technology evolves controlling the camera will evolve. On the traditional computer with a mouse it's not the best experience. On a mobile device it's quite interesting as you can stand in one place and move the phone around to change the view and point it anywhere you want.

With a VR headset it will feel like someone cut your head off and mounted it to the handlebars. :p
 
Dave, how do you control wind noise on a bike? I tried making a movie with my Nikon point & shoot and the noise was unbearable.
