I was taking a look at the Waldridge catalog and have spotted a couple potential first purchases. I would appreciate your comments on the quality.

Peashooter exhaust, which I believe to be Wassel or Brituro.

A complete gasket and oil seal kit. Is a kit the way to go?

Rubber footrest, kick starter and gear shift

Fork tubes. I recall reading about a lot of problems with oil seals and fork tubes fitting correctly and would like to avoid this problem

Thanks, Gary

It's generaly accepted that anything NOT made in India is likely Ok. Especially rubber.
China, half is crap, half is better than OEM. I can't figure that one out. LOL
I have a sneaking suspicion that a good bit of Wassel's items are now from India.
Gasket kits are great if you think you'll need most of what's in them.
fork tubes..FORK TUBES!..argh! There is only one sure way to get new tubes exactly like
the ones you pull out. Send the old one's to Frank and he'll return new one's that match
them exactly. He's not cheap but he is good.

I have read mostly positive feedback on the Wassel Peashoters, has this changed recently?

I am clueless here! I going to pull the heads, and transmission and likley get into the bottom end so I thought a full gasket set was in order?

I am not looking for cheep but I was hoping for inexpensive.

I do plan on replacing all the rubber, these were just some items that are currently on sale.

I got a glimpse of the eclipse last night in between the clouds. What, first time sinse 1638 that a full eclipse occurred on the winter solstice? It was a red to umber color here in California, what did you see?

Sorry, couldn't say for certain about the Wassel peashooters. I will never buy or recommend another Wassel seat though.
Most Chinese and pretty much all Japanise rubber is of very good quality.
I didn't know how deep you were going into the motor. Any kit Walridge sells should be fine. The EMGO gasket kit's are usually good.

The down side of EMGO are their fork tubes. No matter how temping the price. Unless you have a lathe handy Don't do it.
They've been sending them out without being fully machined.

I have Wassel mufflers and like them a lot. The gasket & seal kit is a great thing to have on hand, I've used up most of mine but it's taken a number of years. If I were to buy fork tubes again I'd get them from England - my Chinese tubes fit OK but the chrome is wearing after only 5-6000 miles.

The few things you need several of on hand is the clutch circlips and Time cover gasket and oil pump nipple and must be ordered as correct match thickness as these determine the pumpl sealing fit. Silicon rocker gaskets are best and reusable or just get used to weeps there. Beware head gaskets that are paper covered in copper foil.

Roll the fork stanchions against each other to tell it true on not. New or even old top bushes that tend to hang up may only need tapping round while held on tubes.
Fork damper tube bottom gasket is often chewed up get them too but last a while and reusable.

Speedo drive need mods or get used up like tires and brake pads.
Worth watching for sales to get one for spare as it will be needed too soon.

Thanks for your input! I read your earlier feedback on the Wassel mufflers and am glad to hear they are holding up. This is going to be my first purchase, and with all the choices, the range of quality in the items and fitting issues, I can see this rebuild is going to be stressful.

Clear skys at 1:30 A. M. to 4. Moon turned a golden orange, lovely, sipped straight vodka out on the street with 2 other trooper neighbours standing on a piece of scrap carpet to prevent our feet from freezing in the - 7 Celcius temperature. Slept till 2 P.M. then off to Solstice party, firetwirlers, musicians, parade. Danced under moon with pretty girls swigging cognac. Slept till 1 P.M. Pulled dead Odyssey 680 out of Crazy after only 8 months of service. Life.

Hobot,
I remember having to give my speedo drives lots of TLC. I used to take them apart to inspect, clean & grease, any time the rear wheel came off. I'm curious as to what sort of modifications you make to yours. Please explain. Photos would be great. TIA
Charlie
