mostly curiosity....

first question, does anyone make OE reproduction wire sets? as for the original spark plug wires - were they suppression (resistance) wire? i'm assuming they were a dark green color, most likely made by lucas. if the wires are resistance, i'm assuming the champion plug boots are not - ??? i'm somewhat thinking resistive plugs were not very common back in the day. the 45° coil boots - I've done an exhaustive search, and no luck finding a source. somebody makes these things since the replacement wires sold by andover-norton look like they have the 45 ends. anybody know a source? from most of the photos in the 75 sales brochure, it looks like the wires wrap around and come in from the rear of the engine to the spark plugs - just bringing it up as a detail item. finally, anybody have good photo's of OE plug wires.

Dunno about earlier years, but the factory brochure for 73 shows black wires. They would have been wire core with N7Y plugs. Points ignition.

Points ignition and no radio fitted means no need for resistor plugs wires or caps. Same applies to any analogue EI.

Suppression caps may have been required by the Construction and Use regulations, for the benefit of nearby TV-viewing householders and occupants of cars with radios.

Here are a couple of pages from the Lucas catalogues,

While green wire was available, I have only seen black on a bike.

Black straight-thru wires and the Champion black with white lettering caps on my '72 when new. Plug wires facing rearwards at the plug. :)

thanks for the replies. look at the pic - how good are your eyes. this is supposed to be a 74 crate bike - aside from the cable routing, does it look like the plug wire has a hint of color? to me, it doesn't appear black, but unless my eyes are deceiving me, i'm thinking a dark green or a dark blue - ???

the pictures below - this was posted on another thread. are these original wires? they appear dark green. I do know, that on other british motor products, MG's and such, some were fitted with a dark green suppression wire - ???

I had a '75 with 1800 original miles. Untouched. It had the green wires just like the photo but I don't recall they were
stamped with "suppression".

That first photo has a blue hue, look at the castings, they all look blue but they are grey in real life.

I had a UK car built in the early 70's, it had no radio, when I added one I had to add suppression.

When adding a radio the usual suppression required was a condenser attached to the ignition coil terminal and another connected to the alternator.

The Champion WC200 plug caps were unsuppressed so the HT leads/wires should have been.

As was already pointed out, there is a lot of Blue on things that should not be blue.
This could simply be the camera used was not set to the correct color temp.
A lot of cameras today automatically set the color temp, but often you may have more than one lighting source and they can be two or more different colors.
The two wire only pictures do not look right either, they look very yellow.

The 75MKIII right behind me in my office, 5 original miles never registered, RIST green supression 0525 with champion caps like in post#8.

My '73 wires were black from new. I could be wrong but I believe they were non-metallic core (supression?). N7Y Champion plugs and the soft Champion plug caps. However someone posted a picture showing a '75 in a crate that clearly shows green cables! The P11's came with the green Lucas solid metal core wires also.

the 74 brochure also shows, what appears to be black wires. several folks with 75's indicate green, so there may be some sort of transitional period or maybe a "supplier of the day" thing. from what LAB indicated, the WC200 plug caps may be period correct, so I assuming black or green, suppressed, with the WC200 caps and straight copper plugs would be close to delivered OE equipment.

haven't located the 45° coil boots, but have located a couple WC200 plug caps - i'll be building non-suppressed cables using Packard 440 copper core, straight coil boots, and champion plug boots and fitting those with champion RN7YC resistor plugs. hopefully that will straighten out my oddball HT lead/sparkplug issue.

thanks for all the input and replies -
