Setting Up an Amal MkII

I've found the chrome slides to be a problem in a twin carb setup. One of the two, and I can't remember which, can hang up on the adjuster. Screwing in the adjuster jams the slide unless you lift it every time you want to adjust, anyone else found this issue?

I've found it easier to adjust the idle speed on my standard Amals by pulling up on the slides just a hair. Just looking at it, it seemed to me that running a screw into the bottom of the slide at about a 45 degree angle could be problematic.

I can't remember which side either, however it will be the carb that has the adjuster and slide key on the same side. If you look at the stop area on that slide you'll find it not very wide, more than likely your stop screw end is slipping past and jamming it up. The only real cure is to replace the screw if its worn, or increase it's diameter. I found a replacement from Amal was a little fatter and solved the problem. But for some reason a few years ago I went back to alloy slides.

Just a long -shot, I would think it possible if the slide was lifted too high due to the angle of the adjuster it might screw past ?
