SERVICING THE OIL PUMP

What a discovery! I can't believe the conical seal between the pump and cam chain cover was missing! Just installing the pump with a new seal should make a whale of a difference in pump performance.

Regarding gasket or no gasket, I'm a gasket kind of guy.

One caveat - make sure you install the correct conical seal as there are two available. For example, the seal that fits the '75 Commando is different from the one that fits the '69 - '74 Commandos.

I agree with just putting the conical seal in and calling it a day. Hope that cures the wet sumping for you. On mine I need to do the body lapping thing. Not always being deligent with draining off the crankcase after accumulating oil, I've blown the crank seal on the drive side again!
