got a seat stencil coming got silver duplicolor vinyl paint coming...what best way to prep/clean rear of seat for the job?

I just cleaned mine with degreaser I wipe parts down with before painting. Seems to have worked fine without melting the vinyl.

Just be careful to not use a cleaner that might harm the vinyl. I just use windex or maybe rubbing alcohol to clean surface.

Duplicolor makes a Prep-Spray that is excellent for that and also great for other cleaning tasks. You can also use it to clean up any overspray.

used purple power on a cloth dried with cloth ..centered stencil on rea of seat covered seat with plastic trash bag taped top of bag around stencil sprayed 3 -4 light coats duplicolor silver vinly paint let dry carefully peeled stencil with help of exacto knife and scissors and fingers came out pretty good...
