I know that some have advised sealing the I D of the gearbox sprocket spacer as well as the splines of the sprocket itself to prevent a "built in leak". My gearbox did not leak a drop before the layshaft bearing failure and it had no sealants of any kind behind the sprocket.
I am inclined to reassemble the sprocket as it was because "if it ain't broke you can't fix it".
Looking for opinions either way here.
