I know that some have advised sealing the I D of the gearbox sprocket spacer as well as the splines of the sprocket itself to prevent a "built in leak". My gearbox did not leak a drop before the layshaft bearing failure and it had no sealants of any kind behind the sprocket.

I am inclined to reassemble the sprocket as it was because "if it ain't broke you can't fix it".

Looking for opinions either way here.

Don't worry about it, if it leaked in any way (a preventable leak is a failure on the part of the builder in my books) all you have to do is remove half the primary to get to the location.

All you have to do if it leaks is use your rotor holding tool (not jam bits of steel bar in the primary, use rattle guns or get your overweight neighbor to stand on the brake pedal) along with the appropriate clutch locking tool to remove the primary drive and charging system.
Then use you sprocket holding tool for its removal.

Murphy's Law says it might not have leaked before but it might next time.
The devil is in the detail and once done it is about riding with peace of mind in general.

I am a firm believer that using any other means than a rotor locking tool such as TW's beauty to disassemble or reassemble the primary can be damaging to the drivetrain, with the necessary torquing required
