I received my chain ‘detail up’ kit today…

Wow Richard… how long did it take you to build the chain ??
Hi Nigel - I think the total may have been a few hours . I couldn’t do it in one sitting and don’t try to do it after your third cup of coffee !
I found the pins to be magnetized . My tweezers must be low grade stainless as the magnetic attraction was making things difficult .
Tamiya’s instructions have you handling tiny parts with a piece of plastic sprue or wooden toothpick with a piece of double sided tape on the end and I found this to work well . The danger of handling tiny parts with tweezers is launching them into who knows where . You can also use wax pencils which are made for use in handling rhinestones, etc.

Not familiar with the kit in question, but I've often found that small a piece of blu tac on the end of a pencil/screwdriver can have just enough adhesion to hold and manoeuvre parts into position without loss or damage

More concerned with the Whitemetal big ends and the frame made from same material ;)
Very nice - I am envious. These RAE kits look very similar to those made by Model Factory Hiro in Japan - they offer mostly race cars from different eras but also do a few bikes . I have just ordered a
Tipo 158 Alfa Romeo thanks to all the points earned on my business card.
I too would be concerned about a chassis made of white metal - the big ends not so much as it seem white metal may be very similar to Babbitt - remember that stuff ? LOL - wink -wink

About to start on a new kit - 1/9th scale 1933 BSA Blue Star 350 .
These kits are from Model Factory Hiro in Japan and they are very nice indeed . When developing a new kit they tease you with CAD images of some of the bits . When I saw an Altette horn and girder forks I thought it might be a pre war Norton but alas it wasn’t.
Still thrilled with it though . When I begin I’ll post some pics and a link to a build log on Kitmaker.

To give an idea of what these kits are like here is my recently completed Alfetta in 1/12 scale.

They are largely white metal and resin - each wheel is built up of 146 pieces and required drill 72 holes for the spokes .

Not into making bike models but been building my Carrera slot car track in the shed and making the background set from scratch more fun when you can race the model cars can also buy bikes but been told they don't work as good as the cars, so far built the garage and tower next will be a few grandstand and more seniory

Where is the beer fridge?
Its there just behind the Norton, bar fridge will hold 70 cans of beer, but its empty now the bloody mates come up drink my beers but they never seem to fill it up so now it stays empty and if the want a beer they need to put their hands in their pockets, its great racing the slot cars and drink driving them and if you get the mates at the lane changes at the same time can knock them off the track, going to get a police slot car for chasing the drunk mates, when I built the shed 35 years ago the bikes and beer fridge was the first to be put in it then building the benches and mezzanine floor where the slot car track is built under it, takes up 1/4 of my shed and a bit more.

When I was in college. I was mad for motorcycles but I was poor and bikeless. So I did the next best thing, I built a Tamiya Ducati MHR. My room mate was into F1 cars and he built a number of these so I had access to his paints and I had watched the care he took with is models. It came out rather well. Years later I had the chance to build a Ducati 860GT and the lessons I learned and the detail of that kit helped me recognize many elements on my real Ducati.

Richard, I already have a small collection of unmade models, this is not by design, it’s due to not having the time to do them !

I know what you mean - I am mostly retired these days but with many interests , taking care of daughters‘ homes , a LARGE collection of unbuilt kits , 4 motorcycles to maintain and another to restore and now 1 granddaughter and another due next week , time is at a premium for me as well . Take heart Nigel - except for decals , the kits don’t go bad and will be there when time permits.
Cheers - Richard

So here is the Blue Star all done . 1/9 scale by Model Factory Hiro of Japan . The kit is very well done and complete down to real springs ( including valve springs ) , all wiring , cables and fuel /oil lines . Lotta fun - I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.
