Scale model motorcycle

I seem to recall that a fellow involved with the vintage racing scene in the U.K. made some models of Manx Nortons - both bikes and engines . Glen English IIRC - you gents probably know him . Is this one of his ?
Glen isn’t just ‘a fellow involved in the vintage race scene’ he’s one of the top players !

Yes he does do a limited range of models and they look very nice indeed, see here:

Mine is the same as Dominators though.

Apologies, the site went down as I was adding it. Here it is, I'm very proud...

Scale model motorcycle

Not a 166 but a r161, in the mid 1970's I was at Jack Carruther's garage ( he was a Vincent dealer in the 50's ) buying some Vincent parts and under a tarp was a Honda r161 that his son Kel had raced in Australia during the 1960's .

I thought some might enjoy this . I have been a rabid scale model builder for most of my life - the earliest one I can recall is at the age of five and I am now 68. Despite my having been interested in motorcycles for most of those years I have built very few models of them .
I have finally done another - one of my all time favorite bikes .
This is a 1/12 scale Honda RC 166 by Tamiya , built with all the additional aftermarket sets they offer . Wheels that are actually laced with alloy rims and miniature spokes and nipples - forks with sprung internals - clutch with basket and separate plates - photo etched final drive chain assembled with individual links and pins - even minuscule rivets for seat and fairing .

Lotta fun and one of the world’s most amazing motorcycles.
Bought that kit and detail parts a while back. Going to be a winter build to pass the time. Great job!!! Hope mine looks half as good.

Thanks Beach - you might want to follow the link to my build on Kitmaker if you haven’t already done so - hints/ tips kind of thing - be sure to add a link to the chain beyond the 80 rollers that the jig allows as the chain is too tight if you don’t.

Checking out your build as we speak. Any way to save it to refer back to?

Like most people, I was always fascinated by the RC166, sounded great on the track

However a few weekends sharing pit garages with them kinda kills that. I couldn't care less if I never had to hear one of the F**&&^g things again now
So you don’t like ruptured eardrums ? Having the fillings in your teeth jump out and hide ? LOL

I think if you save Kitmaker as a favorite you can go to it anytime you like . I believe all content is saved/ archived on their site .

Thx. Got it saved. Saw where you mentioned a few links came loose and you coated with thinned paint. A worthwhile precaution?

I used thinned acrylic matte medium available in art/craft stores .
It dries invisible and remains flexible to a degree . It is very similar to PVA ( while glue , Elmers , etc. )I think it a worthwhile precaution- I also think that trying to make it operate is a bad idea as it will likely start to come apart - it is , after all a model and not a toy but to each their own. I might recommend you experiment with it on something other than the expensive chain that took lots of time and patience to assemble.

I spent a lifetime firing guns / mortars and artillery which kind of took the edge off my hearing anyway, but being in a garage with someone who insists on revving one of those things to 16000 from a start and keeping it there to try to "rev the misfire out" wears pretty thin :)

I have one of these to make when I can longer ride my bike.
