I am trying to figure out what is the thread on the little bolts that hold the heat shields on the silencers on the S model. Here is a picture of the original bolt that takes a 3mm allen wrench, and next to it is a 10-32 bolt. Is this the difference between the American Standard and Whitworth? The 10-32 has the same pitch, but will not thread into the S silencer.[/img]

Otherwise where can I get these little screws?
thanks,
Dave

A "Whitworth" thread form probably, but not necessarily Whitworth thread.

Unfortunately I cannot find any information on the "061316 Silencer heat shield screw (4)" listed anywhere except the 68-70 parts book, so I am unable to say what the thread type may be?

Possibly it's 3/16" x 32 tpi BSF or BSCy (CEI)? Or 2BA x 32.4 tpi?

It's 2 BA X 1/4 inch long button head allen screw. It will need to come from a Norton shop. DomiRacer has them for $0.78 each.

Dave , FWITW I was chasing the same. There are metric ones available that look exacltly the same(allen key) and stainless steel . Not sure of the size as i am at work and cant check but i bought a tap for a couple of dollars which was just slightly oversize ran it thu and the screws are a perfect match to the original ones still there at a fraction of the cost ( in Aus by the time i get smaller bits the postage from OS kills the price )

I just ordered some from Norvil Motorcycle Company in the U.K. they are listed in their catalogues as '060946 Screw - heat shield - set of six 1.43 pounds'

Man, you guys are good. Thanks for the info. I will probably get some from Domi, and the 750 exhaust nuts too. Good info.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave, Any chance of some photos? I am also in the middle of an S-type restoration, although mine was originally a fastback.

Thanks for the photos Dave, I note that you were looking for heat shield screws even in 1972! I will try to post some pictures of my own project, which started life as a box of assorted parts which had been stored in an abandoned pig-stye for decades. Although I can't be sure I suspect the frame was originally from a Fastback, because there were many of these models sold here in Hong Kong. It is the same model of frame as the S-Type and in the absence of any history I decided to build it in this configuration. I am going for a Yellow finish on the tank and side covers.
