these guys are not fond of the citric acid option:

Why Citric Acid is BAD for Rust Removal

"One of the worst rust removal methods we see all too often is citric acid... In order for citric acid to work on rust, it has to be much more concentrated than in these common uses. (It is a powder that mixes with liquid.) At this level of concentration, sure, citric acid can remove rust, but it is also harmful to the metal below the rust, (not to mention if it has paint on it) in addition to to your skin, nails, and other materials that come into contact with it... Evapo-Rust® does not cause pitted metal, deteriorate materials, irritate skin or nails, and doesn’t even have to be mixed!..."

Hardly going to recommend it are they. There are scientific papers that disagree.

\Citric acid medium. So Piper Nigrum L. can be used has a good inhibitor for preventing mild steel material which is used in many construction purpose.

If you are planning to repaint the side cover after removing the rust then I suggest you look into soda blasting (SB). SB won't require much, if any, prep work and is environmentally friendly.

Best.

Bill,
The problem I have is getting the blasting nozzle inside the tool box area on the left panel.Blasting took care of everything else. I used the Evapo-Rust inside there and it worked nicely. I was thinking about painting the inside of the panels with POR-15 as I can get an artist brush in there and it doesn’t have to be beautiful, just rust free. Thanks for your advice.
Mike
