Well the oil leak seems to have gone now I have retorqued the head and fitted the one way breather. 50 miles on the clock and fingers crossed.

How many miles should I do to run in two sets of rings and one piston (the guy who honed the barrels lost one (!) - I measured the 'old' one and it was 'as new'). I have been keeping the revs to about 3500rpm and not letting it labour. Any tips? Thanks.

Checked belt drive today and it's not eating itself :D

Tried the fast and hard way last time around and was pretty impressed. It' was run in in a day as far as I could tell, no tightness or overheating at any time and has been perfect from then.

Problem is that at 50 miles it may too late to use that method, it's usually recommended to go hard straight from new.
The way I did it was get the engine running the first time on the the new bore and head straight out on the road and get it under short bursts of hard running full load with cooling off periods in between, minimal idling and no slugging at low revs.
Worked a treat.
