Rubber gasket under ammeter

Yup, a square profile gasket goes between the gauge and the headlight shell. The gasket usually falls apart if you remove the gauge. A thin o-ring works fine, or some sealant, unless you are totally anal about originality.

Or a very thin slice through a used bicycle tube is an effective home remedy.
 
I used a pair of hole saws on a block of 1/2" delrin to make a delrin doughnut to mount my ammeter in the headlight shell. It looks better, it's sealed better and it helped to pull the ammeter wires up and away from the bulb and reflector too.

Might be hard to see in this picture, but it's hard to take pictures because everything is inside the fairing...

Here's a picture before I cleaned up the front end and mounted the dunstall fairing. You can see the black delrin doughnut better in the second picture.
