I was talking to Ron Toombs about 5 minutes before he crashed off the top of Mount Panorama at Bathurst in about 1978. The ambulance people could not stop him from bleeding - he had been thrown into the trees. There has never been many riders who could turn-up to a race meeting and win the 3 main feature races. It is strange that there is almost zero video of him racing. He was much older and more competent than most other competitors. Ron was probably almost completely unknown internationally. Pat Hennen raced the TR750 Suzuki against Ron Toombs on the H2R Kawasaki at Bathurst in the mid 1970s.
