Rocker oil line actual pressure range ?

You mentioned a temperature gauge, do you mean an oil temperature gauge ?, this will have to have oil flowing through it, where an oil pressure gauge can sit on a dead end oil line.

I think it would be easier to put an oil temperature sensing probe in the oil tank.

Smith dual gauge has small dia. tube for the PSI and a fixed spring wound temp cable with big ole temp sender on end. I put temp bung in the front of oil tank about an inch off the bottom.

Just for info, someone here found a Smith's oil gauge from an early Mini that looks a lot like the Norton gauges. If you want to make it look nice. You'd probably have to find it at the junk yard or a surplus dealer. The idea of an oil gauge scares me, not that I wouldn't like to know, but do I want to see 0 pressure and then what would I do? It's probably been like that forever, at least 40 years.

13K miles and no gauge and no problems, not to say it can't happen, just not been my experience. As long as I see oil coming back to the tank.

There was a better one, just oil pressure, I'll have to look. Give me time. Looked a lot like the original clocks, colours and everything as I remember and Smith's on the bottom of the face.

Dogt,

IMHO the actual indication in terms of PSI is really not that important, we all know viscosity changes with temperature etc etc, but if you expect to see 10 PSI and see 0 PSI, it will alert you to a atleast have a look in the tank and see all is well.

I guess it's just that I've heard stories about the gauge going to 0 when there was actually nothing wrong. But I don't have a bunch of experience there, so maybe I should just be quiet.

I'd reckon, if it is going down to 0 PSI, theres a chance you are using the wrong oil for your climate.

Have changed to SAE50 oil on DogT's recommendation ( was using Castrol 20W50 ), oil pressure indication is much better, still indicates 0 PSI when hot at idle, oil is definately still flowing, just not under huge pressure, I am happy with the outcome.
