Hi blokes.. been a while ~

I am planning a rejuvenation of my Roadster ~ and the seat is a prime candidate for replacement ~ as the base plate and cover are looking decidedly tardy~

I see a nice looking unit on the Net but they only list an Interstate ~ I believe there is a difference because (obviously) of the fuel tank/s.

As I don't have access to an Interstate so can anyone advise ` ` Thanks ~

Also the fuel tank has a tiny blister at the back of the tank ~ I believe that this will be a hole in the tank (??) It is obviously steel and I 'creme' treated it back around 1993 ~ And as it has been treated I believe this will be an issue ~ I see one of the UK dealers ~ Norvil shop ~ I think list a ready to go fibreglass roadster tank but don't have a price as yet ~

( I quite like the idea of a glass tank despite the debate around them.)

Thanks in Advance ~

What year is your bike?
I think that UK seats are likely better than offshore ones
but I ve never seen them side by side and the cost
difference must be considered.
Suspect tanks are a similar proposition.

The roadster seat fits a roadster, & the interstate seat fits further back because the interstate tank is longer.
The interstate seat also fits with a fastback tank.
The interstate seat is also wider at the front.

I recently purchased a new roadster seat cover from Old Britts. I am happy with the quality. If your foam is in good shape and the pan can be cleaned up and used it is a big savings from buying the whole seat.

Hi

Interstate seats are wider than the roadster and will be wider that your tank, I just brought a new interstate seat with the hump for my Wideline Featherbed frame from Burtons British Bikes in the UK for 130 pounds as well a new seat cover for my old interstate seat 29 Pounds for the cover, they have new Roadster seats for your bike for 110 pounds, with the high Aussie $$$ now its is a lot cheaper that you think, I orderd mine on a Friday nite and it was at my front door on Tuesday morning.

Hope this helps

Ashley

Thanks blokes ~

Mine is a first model 850 ~ 1973 ~ The seat base is a patch job as it was one of the final issues on restoration and the costs were through the roof ~ So i repaired the base plate ~ I could just persevere with it ~ The sponge I made up myself with grey and green material ~ and is excellent ~

The seat on Flease -bay ex Vietnam look good at $180 USD and the part I like is the sponge wherein they state they use a better quality sponge which will not collapse ~
They have not replied to my inquiry ~

Ash ~ Hi ~

How about shipping from the UK ? There is a very nice tidy second hand fibre glass tank on Flese- bay from Burtons ~

RGM list two Roadster seats for the Roadsters at considerable difference in price ~ $99 and $ 145 GBP I think !

( Hope you survived the floods OK ~ The waters stopped at the end of one mate's street and he has quite a collection of triples and he had retrieved a few others bikes to boot ~ It has only just stopped raining up here this past week in FNQ ~ Superb weather now ~ )

There are several vendors in GB that offer two seats with similar price spread.
Wish someone in the know would pontificate on the two levels in terms of
quality.

Hi Stuard

I'm very happy with my interstate seat with the hump, the quility is very good and the seat cover for my orginal seat is the same as the standarded one, they are made in England, so 110 pounds for the interstate or roadster seat is very good and it only cost 60 pounds for delivery to Aus, so just about over $220 Aussie $$$$ to your front door, BJs at Brisbane want $350 for their seats and I don't know where they are made so as far as I am consern I'm still in front.

I live on the Northside of Brissy and on top of a hill over looking Moreten Bay so the floods didn't have any affect on me, we have some rain but its been dry here for a few weeks now with just a few rainy day here and there, but I have friends and family up your way and they are sick of all the rain, so keep your feet dry and hopefully you will get some good riding weather soon.

If you like to chat to another Norton freak anytime my messenger address is ashmanredman@yahoo.com I have owned my Norton for 36 years now since new and know every inch off it..

All the best

FWIW Old Britts told me their seats and covers are made in England. I didn't ask further, but you might email them and see if they will share that information with you if you are trying to source directly from the UK.

Interesting by example. When I was working through my most recent restoration , AKA Trident T150V Special ~ I bought some bits on Fleabay and the bloke emailed me later to ask if I had a seat cover which he did not list already ~ and I would detail and forward to him he would produce a new replacement FOC !

Which he did ~ Now he has a web site and lists regulalry on Fleabay ~ Ex Thailand ~ I saw his listing for Norton Commandos only days ago ~ So someone else has supplied a Norton Sample ~

The result is not too bad IMO ~ and I am well pleased ~ But his prices are too steep IMO ~ at around $70 -$80 AUD ~
