Roadholder Fork Springs

Is there a top and a bottom to the fork springs?
They seem to be slightly tighter wound at one end, I can't remember who's springs they are as a I bought them some years ago.
 
Your description would indicate a possible progressive spring. Standard springs are wound top to bottom with the same pitch. Is this a Commando?
