Rip cord kill switch ??

On Ms Peel and maybe my factory Combat, I want to bypass
momentary kill button and run a rip cord kill switch.
I think I've seen the cords on motorcycle race bikes
so wonder what the slick way is to implement.

On small hydroplanes in Fla. we'd put tacks in marine
out rigger trolling line clips with a plastic card in between.
This grounded outboards like a lawn mower plug kill.
When pilot left the cockpit boat didn't run away far or
motor back around over pilot, spectators etc.

In our cycle ignitions it would have to cut power not short out.
I know cycle crashes can toss pilot in many directions
so a plug that jerks straight out may get pulled from
90' to break cord or pull pilot back yet not pull plug out.
Educate me please.

Rip chord? Hmmm.
How about keeping the Battery inside your jacket. If you came off, surely it would cut the power, wouldn't it?
 
I think what you're refering to is actually called a "dead man" When the rider (or driver) comes off (or away), pulling the attached cord kills the ignition. there should be some common type you could adapt.
 
We used to mount a small set of points on the bars. This was a requirement even for local races (hillclimb & ice racing - Rickman/Zundapp 125).
 
They are completely simple to wire in, as any other kill button/switch is.

All electronic ignitions allow for an alternative means of "killing" the trigger circuit for normally open and/or normally closed kill switch types (read the fine print)

How do you do that with a Boyer?
 
See other thread. Ground the trigger circuit with a normally open button.
 
OK, good data points and off the shelf items to ponder.
Grounding a tap into a trigger wire is a new idea to me.
I'm a simpleton, so might just twist power lead together
with shrink wrap that would pull apart on leaving the saddle
forces or just forgetting I'm still wired in.
Hmm, maybe a small stereo plug in middle of 'tether'
so no matter the direction of pull its comes apart
and easy to plug back in, when or if able.

I know what happens with a rider holding an umbrella at speed
on bicycles, watched a friend grab back of a dump truck
pulling up freeway over pass and gaining speed on down hill
side, it flared open to jerk him up off bike and float him
a bit to the side before it collapsed to dump in in a roll
on the grass, thank goodness.
I've had covers come loose on cargo on bike and wind
eddies and drag flopping made my un-tamed Cdo dance
and weave like a drunkard.
Does not upset a linked Cdo but you can feel extra wind eddies
pass through the chassis.

How about a seat switch? It would have to be bypassed if you want to start it standing or working on the bike, but the one on my lawnmower keeps me from getting off with the blades running.

Seat switches in mowers are a pain, on a bike would be dangerous
to some like me that have to raise off seat for various reasons
and if power were to cut then I'd go down, as power is needed
to turn safely in many many conditions sharp turns to loose
sloped places.

Next suggestion will be seat belt or proximity sensor.

Grounding coil has possibility I'll look into logistics of over just
pulling power plug to whole bike.
I Really don't like the momentary kill button any more,
expect for back fire pops, at least if that's only kill on bars.
Hope you never find out why.

My drag bike has a deadman that has a jumper that opens the circuit to the kill switch. Most of them are normally closed so when the plug comes out it kills the motor. I got mine from Schnitz racing
 
Yes, after given the proper terms, I searched to find these
and on ebay the wide scope of water to ground craft adaptations.
Couldn't tell how or where they mounted, some looked like
bars other dash or panel.
At this point think I cook up my own, but first need to check
with ignition maker on the safe opinions cut or short current to pick.
